What was available to the German medic ?
Hi Guys , I need some help
What of the following was available to the German medic / field hospital ?
1/.Which Pain killers , ie morphine ?
2/. Plasma ?
3/. Antibiotics ?
4/. Where would all of the above be situated ie , with the Sani , the doctor , at the aid post or at the hospital ?
This may sound obvious to some but as much detail would be appreciated
many thanks , Jason , Many Fronts Living History

Re: What was available to the German medic ?
Ideally the truppen- and hauptverbandplatz had the following medicaments available:
Anaesthesia preparation
* Dilaudid-Atropine
* Morphine
* Scopolamine
Local anaesthesia
* Novocain -Suprarenin
* Ethyl chloride
General anaesthesia
* Chloroform pro narcosi
* Ether pro narcosi
* Eukodal
* Evipan-Natrium
* Scopolamine-Eukodal-Ephetonin
Cardiovascular drugs
* Caffeine salicylate
* Cardiazol
* Dl-camphor
* Digoxin
* Lobelin
* Strophantine
The standard tablet box featured in many of the standard sets. It contained the following medicines (in tablet form):
* Atebrin (anti-malarial)
* Acetylsalicylic Acid (Aspirin)
* Atropine
* Bismuth Subgallate (anti-emetic)
* Boric Acid (antiseptic)
* Caffeine
* Cardiazol
* Cocaine
* Codeine
* Diethylaminophenazone (anti-pyretic)
* Diethylbarbituric Acid (Barbitol)
* Digoxin
* Eukodal
* Hexamethylentetramin (urinary infection)
* Ipecac. Opiate (emetic)
* Mercury Chloride (Calomel)
* Morphine
* Opium
* Quinine (Antiseptic)
* Tannalbin (Anti-diarrhorea)
* Vaseline
I don't think the Germans were big on the use of plasma, transfusions using a Tzanck apparatus was the preferred method. Certainly looking at the contents of the Sanitätsausrüstung Satz ‘c’ issued to a hauptverbandplatz, there is no mention of any blood transfusion equipment other than the Tzanck apparatus.

Re: What was available to the German medic ?
I believe it was used as a topical anaesthetic in surgical procedures on the eye and nose, as well as in spinal anaesthesia. Whether it was misused as a recreational drug, I don't know.
