R.A.U it is then. £180.00 for a Heer M42 tunic, WOW! Does he give discounts for being a member of a group(or be it an honorary member)?

Thanks

Drop him an email and ask him. I'm sure he might if you are egregious enough...

When you say no chest darts are you referring to the horizontal seam that goes from under the chest pockets over to the arm seam? If so both my M40 Sturm Tunics have them

No, they are darts of material that are behind the pockets (hence why no one is really bothered about them - you can't see them!). Lost Battalions are one of the few who put them is. They assist in giving the jacket a slight 'hourglass' shape by slightly widening the torso section.

The horizontal seam is a run off of where they should be sewn in.

As I said above, the Sturm garments are very good value for money, but I've always found they need slight alterations to make them fit me.

Don't know about these chest dart things. People have mentioned them to me before. All I can say is if you get one of the tunics I supply in the right size it does have an hour glass shape. Cuts in at the waist and flares out over the hips. Good quailty material, very close to an original I just had in. £85.00 fully badged up....bit of a difference in cost

Agree,.. last 43 tunic I purchased from Dog green , was exceptional quality for the price ,.... Insignia good quality also. The fit was good, in relation to the size supplied,.... no additional tailoring was required.

It doesn't make that much difference, to be honest! My Lost Battalions tunic fits as well as my Janke, RAU and Sturm tunics. The only thing I do find is that I have a little more movement in the upper body as it's not quite as restricted, but that's about it!

Hi there,

I found that a few week s ago, looks a bit odd to me. I think I will opt for an original when I find one in my size.

But thanks alot anyway...I like it when people are friendly and help (I wish more people were like you)! Well saying that most living historians are very friendly and help fellow living historians out)

Thanks alot,
Nathan

Original greatcoats are going up in price and are fragile and irreplaceable historical collectibles, if you wear one in the field it will inevitably get damaged. Much better to get a repro. The one in the auction above is actually a reproduction of a late-war surcoat, the tailoring looks great, but I have never seen one of these reproductions and I am not sure about the materials used.

Nathan

Buy a repro for running around in the field with. I was once like you, i bought an original bread bag for running around with, then i went to the show, was in a battle, died against a tree and it got ripped. I'd paid good money for it (it wasn't that much but a bit more than a repro) and i wasn't very pleased when it got torn. As it has already been said and as my story shows, the material of originals doesn't stand up to what we do as it is 60 years old. Therefore in the long run you will probably be throwing hundreds of pounds down the drain. By all means buy an original greatcoat and keep it in your wardrobe and watch it gain in value. But get a repro for shows and running around in the field.
