DAK Photos.

Post by SchnellMeyer »

Here is a signed photo of Gunther Halm that I have in my photo collection . I got this photo some years ago from him when I met him in Germany at a DAK reunion .Note also the photo showing his original Knight's Cross award document which I believe was sold to a private collector some years ago .
Keep those post flowing in men .

Yes , that is true but that is also the case in all Armies of the World . The youth are always lost in War.

Very true and their lives wasted.

Not so Tychsen , politicians cause the wars and soldiers fight them .Kippling was not always right with his quotes.

I think when he said "Because our father's lied" the reference was to those who had contributed towards the cause of the war and the misguided patroitic clamour which followed , no doubt the politicians would have had their say and plenty of it along with the press etc.
Kippling had a major guilt problem having twisted arms to get his son accepted into the army and then to deal with his death.
Whilst he may well have included himself he was also looking at the parts played by others, "fathers" being many men.

Politicians , we get what we vote for or not as was the case in 1930's Germany.

Tychsen, could you pls explain it further as I always thought the 2nd world war outbreak was due solely to expansionist actions of Hitler and co (with 'not-so-silent' help of USSR)? It had nothing to do with 'misguided patroitic clamour' as opposite to 'to be or not to be', be it France, Poland or UK... As further chain of actions proved, it was not a war for 'their Danzig'... Or was it ?

So if I remember correctly, the Africa war was mainly around 1942-1943?

My reply was only to Justins view of Kippling - having said that " Because our fathers lied" might equally be laid at the feet of those who sent Germany to war in 1939 - certainly a war which was started on the basis of lies.
Absolutely 1941-43.

Well I understood your recent post, I was just wondering about the several replies regarding nothing related to German forces in Northern Africa during WW2 :?

As was my point, there's not been a lot that's been aligned to poetry recently, or to do with the DAK... :?
