I wonder Cam how many of these poor guys survived the war , perhaps being a POW was not such a bad deal after all ?

I agree Tyschen, maybe a POW camp in the Deep south of the USA would have been preferable to "Old Mother Russia".....

You also have to wonder what views they brought back with them , uppermost in my mind being that "we arn't really winning the war" - this cannot have escaped them.
One wonders what might have been imparted to their superiors and to the folks at home - debriefing must have been a majoper intelligence gather exercise and possibily the chancxe for the Allies to sew misinformation.

What would have happened to these guys post debriefing? I am assuming many of them would have had injuries that would have meant no more combat?

Many of the POW camps in the USA were right here in my home state of Wisconsin. They used the prisoners for logging and such. It was amazing when I found out that 20 minutes away from me had a camp (Marshfield Wisconsin). They even had a major accident which a few men had to be transported to the St.Josephs Hospital. So much WWII history right here in my state.
