I've seen a similar pic as well, I can't rememebr though whether it was Splinter or Italian camo...I'll have a look tonite.
Hanging up my Knochensack for now, it's been a good war!

There is a pic in "FJR 3" taken in Italy with a guy in splinter trousers. I think that the pic is pretty late in the war although without a copy in front of me I could not say for sure when it was taken.
That book has several examples of weird knocked-up items being worn, most obvious being those Italian cammo blouson type jackets by senior officers seen towards the end of the book.

Nice to look at but hardly typical.

Not specifically "FJ wrongness", a bit more general:

the use of modern, elasticated British army braces by German re-enactors. For sure, if you feel the need, wear a pair of period liberated Allied braces....but modern British ones look just like modern British ones :)
