Berg Heil!

Does anybody know how many qualified Hochgebirgsjäger there were and what their organisation was with regards to Company/Battalion/Regiment strength.

Servus Hochgebirgsjäger Paul,

Only 4 Hochgebirgsjäger battalions were formed during WWII. Hoch 1 & 2 were established for the Kaukasus campaign, along with an 'Ad Hoc' unit Hochgebirgskompanie Groth (top climbers from both GJD 1 & 4). These were later absorbed into the divisions or transfered in late 1943 to form Hoch 3 & 4...both of which served in the Italian theater, as well as the French Alps.

Nice link...some good info there. Though they seem to have Hoch 4's order of battle incorrect. Hoch 4 had 5 Kompanies according to the unit history book "Dort, wo der Adler haust!"
