Hi,can anyone tell me how long the Puttees worn by the Gebirgsjager are?? many thanks. BJ

Hi BJ the type of cloth puttees warn by the German Gebirgsjäger were called Wickelgamaschen they were a short elasticated style puttee .And were 73x8cm with a 20 1/2 x 2 1/2 cm strap :D think I need to go out more

Thanks for that i gues they only wrap round about 3 times hope they fit an old cart horse like me.....LOL

You could use some old British army ones and cut them down the hard part will be the small buckle .

i'v got hold of a pair of the ww1 german puttees 9ft long so i will get 3 sets out of them just need to find the hooks & buckles

Franz, could you pls point out some link to the British ones you advise to use ? Any advisory so as to find the hooks & buckles too ?

Is the colour not a bit different on them? The Canadian and Australian puttees are a noticeable green colour whereas the British ones are khaki,
I know there's a lot of variation in German wool shades, are they all pretty much the same though? I don't know a lot about Gebirgsjager stuff :cry:

John you are as wise as you are butifull ,yes they are a diffrent shade thats why I was looking for the link .I have a pair of 40s Austrian putties

You got a picture of your puttees that you could put up so we can compare, and see what the best bet would be, regarding getting alternatives?

Here is a photo of me with my 40s Austrian putties the guy on my left is a Veteran of the Finnish SS batt a very nice guy as well

Looks really nice, the first grey putties I've seen in use, I wish to have something like this...now I'm using rolled socks, gaitors and we plan to make a copy of that wicked styrian ones, but no putties as for now :(

There was some styrian gators in the army shop last time I was there .Rolling socks was ok take alook at this

Hi Guys, from your Italian counter-parts.

Just a suggestion, But keith from Hong Kong repro's Italian puttees in a grey green colour. As they are 0nly $25 (abot £12), are these any good to cut up and be used for GebirgsJaeger?
