Disaster at Bad Reichenhall.

I've been through Bad Reichenhall many times, it's a pleasant little place not far from Berchtesgaden.

However, watching the disaster at their skating rink and the rescue attempts unfold on TV, the deaths of innocent children whilst ice skating brings home the frailty of human life.

My sympathies go out to the townsfolk of Bad Reichenhall.

I'll second that Herr Schaefer.
When we heard last night I felt a little numb I too have passed through it and it is a lovely place. Tragedy strikes in the least expected place. I hope they find survivors....

That's terribly sad.

As a side note, are you aware that the Charlemaine Division memorial is situated at Bad Reichenhall?

Is there any mention of it on any "other forum" do we know?
And if so, has it been spammed yet?
If not, why not, do they not care about "Germans"?

I looked but there's no mention of it.

At least it can be posted here without being spammed by moderators or 'Stalinist' re-enactors.

Just try it - Go on.... See what happens. sidetracked, ridiculed, demeaned.... I give it ten minutes... or someone will move it to another category WITH NO EXPLANATION!

Aslo post the Virginia Coal Mine Explosion.... See what happens in parallel...... aren't we cruel?

I used to work in a coal mine and believe me I filled up at the thought of those men trapped down there - I've BEEN ther and I know the horror of being underground.... I pray to God they get them out alive.

I read about that as well. Apparently the air content is so bad that it can't support human life.

All miners haev a device called a "self rescuer" which is in effect a hard charcoal filter. If they are using them correctly they have a day or so, maybe two if it's not terribly bad. They will be sitting there with either no lights on or just one of the thirteen lights (providing they are all well, together and uninjured) to make the lights last. There are drills down there to make the air last longer and to conserve energy etc. (Think U Boat, underwater and being hunted)
But if they are burned, trapped under fallen rock or have absolutely NO ventilation, their chances are slim. Time is of the essence. The rescuers will know that. A pipe will be the first thing through the fall to pump air in.

I'd do it Les but I'd get 'Kozloved' or 'Nuttied' for daring to do so (I just can't be asked with the anti German abuse & arguments anymore.)

Have you seen the 'Third Reich in Ruins' website? There are plenty of before and after photo's on there.

It's handy to look at before you go to Germany.
