Re: Grossdeutschland Aufklärungs - www.gdrecon.co.uk
Photo's from our recent event at the Avoncroft Museum of Historical Buildings. The theme of the display for the weekend focused on the weeks leading up to the Battle of Voronezh. In June of 1942 GD underwent a period of rest and refitting near Orel in preparation for the re-opening of the campaign in Russia.
I've finally managed to get the gallery finished off and reduced down to a size that is suitable. Have to say that there were some amazing pics to choose from, thanks to both Kevin Booth and Martin Pike for snapping away all weekend.

The next show for us is the annual trip to the E/H Festival of History at Kelmarsh where we're hoping to achieve something a little bit different just to spice things up. It will take us out of our comfort zone, but if all goes to plan should make for quite an interesting display
As ever, we are always interested in hearing from vehicle owners and motivated recruits with an interest in 'Großdeutschland' and WW2 on the Ost Front.

In the absence of pictures from Kelmarsh, we thought we'd give you something to read. Find out more about the role of the Waffenmeister in our latest article.

Our latest research article written by a unit member is now live on the site.
It's quite thorough, so you might need to set yourself a night aside to read it, but if you want to find out more about the German Army Soldbuch (paybook), please follow the link:

Next up for us, the Victory Show, hopefully see some of you there

Grossdeutschland Aufklärungs at the Victory Show 2012
After sifting through all the photo's from our snappers at the Victory Show, i've finally managed to get them down to 30 odd and uploaded them to the site.
The original pictures taken by Kevin Booth and Tim Barrell feature ourselves and members of the Generalstab Living History group, who along with our kameraden from the Panzer-Füsilier's Großdeutschland put on a joint display at this years show. The pictures show some aspects of life within the camp, but mainly feature us in action during Saturday and Sunday's battles.
Great show as ever and the perfect end to the public season for us.
Just a couple more private things to do in November and that will be us for another year - how fast did that go!
To see the gallery, please go to:

Re: Grossdeutschland Aufklärungs - www.gdrecon.co.uk
Evening all,
it's been a while since I posted on the unit thread so I thought i'd round off the season with some pictures from our last 2 events. The first are from our photoshoot with the Fieseler Storch which we undertook at the beginning of November.
The full gallery can be found here:
http://www.gdrecon.co.uk/galleries/storch/index.htm
Towards the end of November we also held our annual Winter Training event at which we were joined by our kameraden from 916 Grenadier Regiment. A very useful and productive weekend was spent sharing each others knowledge and learning things from each other that will no doubt come in useful in 2013.
The full gallery can be found here:

So that was the year that was. It's been a year of ups and downs for the group with the worst weather we've ever known and had 2 or 3 cancelled shows as a result. We've also had a number of leavers who have gone off to persue other areas of interest within the hobby. Contrary to the rumour mill, we are still remaining as an independent unit and are in no way thinking of rolling the group up any time soon. Due to our losses we have opened the membership book again - so if you like what you see on the website, are keen and willing to learn and have a strong interest in 'Großdeutschland' and the war from the perspective of the Eastern Front, please get in touch.
So far our events calendar for next year is looking healthy with a few old favourites to go back to and a few new ones to try out as well which we are all looking forward to getting stuck into. We are also looking forward to further collaborations with other like minded units as we believe this is the way forward for us!
So to all that have worked with us this season, stood by us through thick and thin, through rain and more rain, thank you and we look forward to continuing where we've left off when the 2013 campaign begins.
Neil.

Shame that - some good guys in GD Recon. Wonder why (apart from the bad weather...)?Walther wrote:We've also had a number of leavers who have gone off to persue other areas of interest within the hobby. Re: Grossdeutschland Aufklärungs - www.gdrecon.co.uk
The group officially kicked the season off last weekend at the Ostfront Associations private battle which was based on the events around Kharkov in 1943.
Ourselves and the Panzergrenadiers teamed up to battle against the Russian 2nd Guards Army in what turned out to be quite an enjoyable weekend. We were joined by a couple of our Fusilier kameraden and it was also the first time out for a couple of our new recruits one of whom is a fluent Russian speaker and was able to really set the scene by shouting abuse in Russian at the enemy.
The gallery of pictures from the event is now live on the site, so if you fancy a look…

Next up for the Aufklärungsgruppe is our first visit to the Pippingford Park private battle in April.
Thanks
Neil.

Absolutely ace weekend guys, my personal thanks to the Ostfront Association for pulling off another top notch battle. Nothing beats going up against the 2nd Guards, especially when they charged us shouting Urrahhh!!! I shit my pants!Walther wrote:
