Gebirgsjaeger in North Africa

Post by Hannibal Brooks »

Hello all,

Does anyone have information on the headgear used by the few gebirgsjaeger who were sent to North Africa ? Did they get issued the standard Afrika Korps cap but with mountain troops insignia, or did they use a variant of the Bergmutze ? As far as I'm aware, there was only one regiment of mountain troops in Tunisia and 1 company of Sonderverband 288 that were designated as mountain troops in the entire theatre.

All info greatly appreciated,

Hannibal.

Mountain troops in Noth Afrika were:
2 Kompanie Geb. - Sonderverband 288 and Geb. Reg. 756.

Both units were equiped with standart DAK uniforms, includin M-41 tropical caps. (G.B.Reg. 756 kept his mountain boots but 2 Kompamie 2 Kompanie Geb. - Sonderverband 288 used the common tropical footwear).
