Why WWII German - and not Allied?
Gents,
I was wondering ... why are so many people fascinated with the German WWII military and reenacting it--especially guys from the UK and the US? I feel like there are more Waffen-SS reenactors than there are Tommy reenactors in Great Britain, for example ...
Thanks for a interesting and (hopefully) non-flammable discussion.

Re: Why WWII German - and not Allied?
Everyone has their own reasons. All combat soldiers are undoubtably brave but personally I admire the olde-worlde Prussian combination of bravery, aggression, ingenuity and general dash that the well trained German Landser had. If you could take away the overwhelming Allied superiority in aircraft, artillery and general support logistics, how would things have panned out if it were just mano-a-mano?. An article I read somewhere (or maybe made up) clearly stated that a Wehrmacht Gruppe would kick the shit out of an average US squad or British section 8 times out of 10.
They also had cooler uniforms.
I think the predominance of Brits and Yanks that go German might be because we have very liberal laws on this subject. One of the things that pisses off your average liberal German is that the banning of symbols and printed text, on pain of imprisonment, is exactly the sort of thing the Nazis did.
It's an irony that our grandfathers fought for their offsprings' right to wear swastikas

@BedsnHerts: Thanks for your reply!
Sorry if I oversaw a previous thread on this. It's just interesting to see how many different periods are reenacted all over the world and in particular certain impressions.
I think it is said in the commentary of the movie "Attonement" that they could not find enough British WWII uniforms as movie props for the Dunkirk scene in the UK, so they borrowed them from a Polish company. I suppose if there was need for extras for a movie about the German military, there would be many reenactors in the UK who'd show up for a movie shoot in (their own) full attire, and I guess many a fine Soldat impression among them.

How about you read the previous threads rather than spam up the forum with another rehash of an age old and now seriously dull topic?
