tinting webbing?

tinting webbing?
Hello Kameraden
one question for the real experts - how do I color (permanently) a Wehrmacht tropical webbing belt?
The one I have is a pale yellow-tan and I want to tint it in the often-seen DAK dark olive-green. Already thought of Blanco but it seems messy, not lasting and above all it's totally unavailable here.
Any reasonable suggestions?
cheers + danke!

Imagine that! Mine was olive and I faded it out to a lighter tan LOL
You should be able to soak it in a light dye bath. Are there any sources for the proper shade of dye near you? If not, I can give you a good source for the proper shade here in the States.

Re: tinting webbing?
You know a tint is different from a full dye don't you?
If you don't like the yellow shade, just chuck it in a bucket with some green dye and leave it for a while(days)
That's you got the DAK look.

Yup, I know it has to be soaked thoroughly- but what sort of dye exactly? For textiles I imagine - any suitable brands suggested? Possibly something I can get in Europe (thanks for the kind offer Grabenkater, but importing from the US is a pain nowadays )
Re: tinting webbing?
dylon dyes are the most widely used ones both commercially and within domestic use , they have the little tubs that you fix with salt that can easliy picked up at most stores here in the uk, they have a colour chart (try google them they will have most pics online website)you can then adjust shade to the stregnth of the dye\water mix
dylon produce dye for industry...bloody strong stuff, i used stuff years ago when i worked in a theatre company, stank to high heavens and sucked paint off walls , my arms were permanently a blue shade for months

So, did it work??
Re: tinting webbing?
Just ordered the Dylon dye (Olive shade), will try as soon as I get it!
This is going to be fun

Re: tinting webbing?
It worked ! I used a small packet of Dylon Olive Green and my DAK web belt is now a very nice and slightly faded olive green. Perfect!
As an aside - which others might find useful and interesting - since I was there, I also dyed an old pair of cheap Italian camo trousers (made in Asia and being sold by Epic Militaria). I used the remaining Dylon Olive Green, which transformed the garish red-brown, sand yellow and bluish light green tones of the original in a near perfect copy of the SMWholesale / Italian muted WWII colors . The pattern is obviously still wrong, but the colors are almost perfect now - I'm very happy!
