Here's two pics of Hauptmann Franz Von Werra and his pet lion cub,
he was "immortalized" in the film "The One That Got Away!" played by
the actor Hardy Kruger, the "real" Von Werra was shot down and killed
in 1941.

Interesting photos. I have a postcard sent in 1917 with the picture of a chap in uniform holding a cow with the caption that translates as "Lotte the darling of the company".
I started a similar thread on Allied forum looking at the "aquiring " of larger animals and animals on the battle field in general. http://www.alliedforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2812
Any one know of similar events on the other side of the frontline ? Or was it a case of "Filthy Boche stole our cows" ? Or do you think there were other reasons?
