On 23rd January 1943 the last Luftwaffe flight to and from Stalingrad was made.
The day before the airfield at Gurmrak fell and on evening of the 23rd the last airfield at Stalingradskiy was abandoned as the remaining defenders were withdrawn back into the ruins of the city.

The few lucky men on that last flight , wounded from the 36th Panzer Division who , tankless had been employed in an infantry roll.

The medical staff at the airfields "Medical Collection Centre" remained behind with a large number of wounded , none of whom survived the war.
