It's certainly heavier! (As a result it was probably more accurate). It fired a more useful round (9mm) and worked in the coldest of weather - important as in really cold weather the spring on the PPSh drum magazine tended to break, one of the main reasons for the transit to a stick magazine as the war went on.
Not used in fantastic numbers in the Winter War, but increasingly common as the Continuation War went on.
