SS Gebirgs

Post by sapper44 »

Were SS Gebirgs allowed to grow a beard like the army Gebirgs? On another note, I love used book stores! I picked up a copy of Alpine Elite by James Lucas for $6 US dollars. Hard back first edition with the dust cover!

I believe all Mountain Troops were allowed to have beards, they are useful at high altitude.

Grüß Gott Christian, Matt, und Bergkameraden,

Going through my reference books on Waffen-SS Gebirgsjägers, and I can't find any photos of them wearing beards. W-SS tended to be a little more restrictive on their rules than the regular Army Gebirgsjägers.

I would recommend that you get the following books to use as reference for your impression:

Mountain Troops of the Waffen-SS, 1941-1945 by Roland Kaltenegger (ISBN: 0-88740-813-3)

7.SS-Gebirgs-Division Prinz Eugen im Bild by Otto Kumm (ISBN: 3-921242-54-1)

Gebirgsjaeger im Bild, 6. SS Gebirgsdivision Nord 1940-1945 by Alfred Steurich (ISBN: 3-921242-25-8)

Karstjäger by Sergio Corbatti & Marco Nava (ISBN: 978-2-84048-256-7)

Berg Heil und Horrido!
