Rucksackbeutel für den Gebirgsrucksack 31

Post by mario33 »

The Gebirgsrucksack 31 was issued supplied with 3 color-coded canvas bags (Rucksackbeutel) to carry soldier's stuff and keep it 'in ordnung'. Together with friends, we are working on producing usable repro of those.

Those were of plain canvas, similar to rucksack's, 32x22 cm bags, supplied with white cotton drawstring through metal rings punched through canvas at the opening. Plus little coloured cloth sewn on to easily identify content.

Here's the example of replica taken from one ebay auction:

My questions for other fellow GJ with larger knowledge:
- is the sizing and looks correct ? any evidence on period photos ?
- what is the meaning of colours ? is it like red (rot) for hygiene items, blue (blau) for shoes, yellow (gelb) for food ? any rationale ?

Hello
I do not find it good that they use my picture with description from an auction here with ebay. Furthermore it is hardly to be believed that they want to copy my bags.

I'm afraid that, as this photo was in the public domain, i.e. on an auction, it is fair game for anyone to lift it and republish it without permission. As long as they are not using his hosting facility for it, they are doing no wrong.

Resurrecting an older thread.

I own one (1) unissued condition schuhbeutel, and it is made of a rather thin cotton (almost linen-like) fabric. I wonder, how common is this particular fabric to either the schuh- or waeschbeutel?

I am also hoping for help in sourcing some "quality" repros. If none currently exist, I could just as well use a lead for some good, authentic-looking fabric. I have already stumbled across "Reenactor Prop Supply", but am not impressed at all with his product.

Thanks,
David

Hmmm? My question as well, why four grommets, and not eight? Your edited post answers that one! :-)

I found this fabric over at Amazon.com that might put me in a good direction:

Image

http://www.amazon.com/European-Handkerc ... LH6G08S3BO

It is described as "100% handkerchief linen" which is close, but may actually end up being too thin. I am judging my original schuhbeutel to be 100% cotton, but the look and feel is just like a well used handkerchief. It is thin, soft, flexible, with a noticeably loose weave. It is identical to the fabric inner pockets of both my M31 Gebirgsrucksack and Kleinergebirgsrucksack only slightly softer yet.

unsam and gebirgsjäger, I will keep your suggestions open for now. I am still inclined to seek out a fabric closer to my original. I am quite intrigued by the set that Seb13 has posted. The fabric is a good shade of olive, appears somewhat thin, and appears flexible. I would prefer dull aluminium grommets though.

Thanks,
David :D
