Luftwaffe leather equipment was a natural, uncoloured leather, lederfett, dubbin and so on was applied as and when it was needed!

OK. Thanks for the Dagda. But would people really buy items that were natural leather????? Seems all the kit I've seen has either been an earth brown or a red brown.

Would you guys really want everything, including D rings in natural leather and have to add lederfett or dubbin????

I need feedback gents. Surely there are more of you who have an opinion on this. You have a supplier here asking what you people out there want. And no, I'm not justing looking to make a quick couple of quid, I'm trying to get things right instead of throwing money down the drain and you guys telling me its all wrong.

Leather being a natural product comes in various shades anyway! The colouring thing again is due, various conditioners and polishes added!! You cant go wrong with natural! D rings, straps and Y straps! Ah the Neatsfoot debate!! I only use it on the soles of leather boots/shoes! Dubbin for everything else!

I only ever get my kit in natural leather!

like these lovely gentlemen

The chap on the right has a natural leather P38 holster with a natural leahter belt, which has had ox blood polish added! The chap on the left has natural leather kit of various age and natural treatments added!

Please forgive my ignorance on this subject, but what should the d-rings be? a plain steel, dull in appearence? I assume the chrome d-rings i see on some y-straps are incorrect as chromium would have been scarce, only for specific machine parts?

And I assume natural leather will get darker with age and usage, looking... dirty? Would falshy's have used boot polish to darken the light leather before going into combat?

Regards,

Gary.

Leather does darken with age and use, also the use of dubbib, etc, darkens it further!!

Plain steel for d rings!!

Blue is the only true colour for Luftwaffe. bread bags, gaiters, water bottles and everything else were blue. or not?

Yes, that should be blue too.
Sorry to be glib but it's rather a naive question. There is no one correct shade. Brown in any number of shades, tints and hues can be found and later Black which is never uniform either.

In early period leather was natural (just like early army's leather equipment) . About 1940 chocolate brown equipment was being produced also. Production of brown equipment was halted in 1942.

BUT- for example officers belts in LW Verordnungsblatt (don't remember exact number) about 1936 were regulated as "Havanabraun" colour
And what would you say about it? 8)
