Bandoleers were the norm, the colour and type may have changed but the were much more common than pouches. More practical as they can carry more ammo :D There are geographical variations but Bandoleers are the standard.

I think it depends on the year. In later pics (Normandy to the end) bandoleers were quite rare. leather ammo pouches seems to be the norm then.

Thanks for that, was only the splinter ones used or plain cloth types used.

Just as most retaliers only sell the splinter b type but have seen a few chinise dealers selling grey and blue types.

Pre War- Olive green
1939 to 1941 - Blue
1941 + Splinter B
Afrika/Italy - Tan
late war - olive tan and other colours seen, such as grey.

Splinter B bandoliers are seen as early as Kreta in 1941. And used through out the war up untill the surrender. It was the main bandolier that was used, there were other colours issued to theatre such as afrika and italy.

Later on , there was a Olive tan kind of colour bandoliers. I have seen originals stamped 1944, and also grey ones also.

Leather Ammunition pouches can be seen from early to late , it was a source of carrying extra ammunition end of the day.
