FJ lid on German Ebay

Post by dog green 1 »

http://cgi.ebay.de/Fallschirmjagerhelm- ... 2a0acc8776

Nice looking helmet and going for good money at the moment. Anyone any ideas if it look like the real deal. With some really good repros around at the moment and people being able to do some superb paint and ageing jobs I'd be far too scared to bid on such an items. My moto is "Its better to pay repro prices and not be dissapointed than pay original prices to find out its a clever fake" Looks nice though.

I would hazard a guess at fake, ET71 shell were very rare and I don't like the straps much... Ask Mike at Fallschirmjager Biz, he specialises in these early lids.
Hanging up my Knochensack for now, it's been a good war!

Just decided to sell it mate - didn't really want to get rid of it, but needs must.

It's just sat on a shelf now, so it's probably better off going to a good home where someone will appreciate it more.

2 Years ago, I thought that I might still do a bit of FJ - but I'm too old for that now. Let you younger ones do it!

Something I would know next to nothing about and if I had big money to buy one I would not be buying it via eBay.
eBay has so many reproduction items being fenced as "real" DG1 got it right.
Having said that honest people can be found there , I got a decent early war leitz 7x50 this am for a very good B.it.N. price along with a dimmer switch for a range finder.

Good Helmets can still be found on Ebay! But you need to know your stuff and have a bit of luck as well as cash. There was a genuine FJ Para Helmet on there a month ago and sold for £1500 approx - a complete bargain of a price!

Example:

Use these the natural language and terms to find the items - e.g. Fallschirmjäger as well as Fallschirmjager and Faldskærmssoldat (simple example).

Set up searches terms on Ebay search and save them.

The luck is if the person has just posted it for say 3 days and at a really bad time for the majority of sellers. Finishing at 3am in England is 4am in Europe and 9pm in USA - you get the idea! Also if it has taken you a while using different terms then it will also be difficult for others to find it!

Just some tips - they can still be found....

I do much the same think to buy binoculars but as you rightly say knowing what you are buying is more than half the battle, the other half is the funds !!!!!!!!! :(
If I were looking for a helmet this deficit in my own knowledge would make me look outside eBay.

Boy your problem is you just don't have the "serious" interest in the hobby! I'll bet you're just a kid - maby 40?
I'm still an active Fj reenactor, have been doing it for 29 years. I'm 74 yrs old and many of the "kids" can't keep up with me in the field - even when I'm the one carrying the MG 42.
In most cases the problem is located between their ears - the I can't do it attitude!

I'm not an expert but have a bit of an idea about Fj lids. that said, i don't know enough from simply looking at a photo. For that reason, i would not part with serious money for a helmet i seen on ebay...! You need to get it in your hands and feel the quality for a start!

For the most part, if you want a good, genuine example of a helmet be prepared to talk to the big collectors or watch their forums in anticpation of one coming up for sale. This way, you will be 99% sure of what you are buying. But, they could be big bucks.

That said, i've just picked up a genuine shell from a private collector for....a very reasonable price!
