HBT summer tunics
Hello everyone,
Just curious about whether or not the HBT tunic could be worn like a standard wool uniform with insignia. I love the wool uniforms however, if I'm portraying early or late summer '44, will HBT be appropriate. I'm portraying the 12th Waffen SS HJ. I just don't want to over heat in the summer if you guys know what I mean. I do have a tunic that's ready to have the insignia sewn on however, I just need confirmation thats all.
Cheers!

Re: HBT summer tunics
The drillich was only given out to troops for the summer, it wasnt issue uniform. Therefore you werent supposed to put rank insignia etc on it. As far as Im aware it was issued with a national sleeve eagle in Bevo. Thats not to say some soldats etc put insignia on out in the field, but.... for 12th SS youre best staying with wools or HBT cammo (pea dot).

Frustrating!
A chap wants to wear something other than camo kit and we have to advise him against it.
Summer of '44 was a summer of mostly camo for combat troops in the 12th.

Re: HBT summer tunics
Of course, you could go for Italian cammo as thats lightweight and perfect for the 12th

I had a hunch about the tunic been a fantasy item, I guess the wool tunic is back.

Re: HBT summer tunics
Although two versions of four pocket tunics were produced in drillich and issued to Heer troops. Both versions were similar in appearance to what re-enactors and collectors commonly call M42 & M43 pattern Heer tunics. The later version (introduced in 1943) was made from a synthetic 'linen type' material. These tunics were issued with mid/late war generic litzen and bevo breast eagles fitted. As Ian rightly says there was extensive use of drillich uniforms by W-SS troops during the Kursk campaign, mostly two pocket 'work' uniforms, with five button fronts, dyed 'reed green', a few of which were modified to a four pocket 'tunic' style - which is where the repro 'fantasy' items on sale today originate from unfortunately.Franz repper wrote:Sorry yes Just did a Reread 43 model is a reproduction fantasyMikkel wrote:Thats garment did not exist during ww2.
