Example SS-GJ can be seen in the russian movie "the cockoo".

Bullet Proof Monk, it's a hong kong phooey, chop suey type of film, but it's not too bad a watch if you want to while away a couple of hours on a dull night.

Grüß Gott Bergkameraden,

Let's see...off the top of my head:

1941 film - Spähtrupp Hallgarten

1943 Ufa film - Alert at the Pass...here's a clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kgk20mihjX4

1950 film - The White Tower...it's post-war, but Lloyd Bridges plays a 'fanatic' German with a Bergmütze, as he battles ideologies with Glenn Ford while climbing in the Swiss Alps.

1954 film - Die Letzte Brücke

1961 film - Guns of Navarone...group of GJ's attacking the commandos in the mountains http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Bsrb8akikM

1965 film - The Heroes of Telemark...Kirk Douglas raids the heavy water plant in Telemark, Norway. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksY7qvUSYCM

1968 film - Where Eagles Dare...my first introduction to Gebirgsjägers at the age of 8! :D The opening scene shows 3 Junker Ju-52's flying through the Alps....they were from the Swiss Air Force and are still flying under a tour company called Ju Air. I got to fly in one of them in the mid-1980's from Zurich to Frankfurt! Cool ride...even got to sit in the cockpit for awhile. :D :D

1983 film - The Keep...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1aw-rlZbQQ

2001 film - Captain Corelli's Mandolin
Dort, wo der Adler haust!
Hauptmann u. Heeresbergführer "Papa" Kiser
Kompanie Chef

There are a few other mountain troop related films:

Italian Alpini:

A Farewell to Arms - 1932 with Gary Cooper (have not seen this one)....just found the whole film on google video:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... &plindex=5

or 1957 version with Rock Hudson.

Swiss Mountain Troops:

1990 - Courage Mountain - the Heidi story with Charlie Sheen as a Swiss Army Officer on the eve of WWI. Some good skiing scenes.

US Mountain Troops:

1960 - Ski Troop Attack
Dort, wo der Adler haust!
Hauptmann u. Heeresbergführer "Papa" Kiser
Kompanie Chef
5. Kp./Hochgebirgsjäger Btl. 4

Dont quote me on this but I believe the highest quality recruits were recruited in the begining, before the invasion of Russia. Then even for the SS the requirements dropped.
The recruits were from Alpine and mountainous areas but didnt neccesarily posess advanced climbing experience. They did ski, hike and live in the mountains and were exposed to cold weather. I forget what book that was from.

All SS-GJ units were made up of foreign volunteers and came from mountainous regions (and they were recruited starting in 42 to 44) They werent frontline fighters so as light infantry they were very effective in battling partisans.
For them, their mission and terrain made them Gebirgsjagers.

The Eagle has Landed, German officer with the eye patch in charge of the mission has an Edelweiss patch and a Narvik shield perhaps. He's also seen wearing a windjacket later on.

The new German film "Nordwand" (North Face) is excellent. It portrays the real life Eiger ascent in 1936 (so not strictly wartime...) by two German Gebirgsjager. I can't recommend this film enough.

Remember, as has been said the Ed Harris charactor was a Jager not a Gebirgsjager. Subtle difference
