pack muli saddle

has anyone ever come across one of these for sale anywhere? im looking for one to complete a display and have never seen one for sale although ive seen one in a well known collectors collection. What is the best book to get on the gebirgsjaeger with particular interest in equipment?

Servus Mulischoffeur Matt,

Packsaddles are hard to find...especially original WWII Gebirgsjäger Tragsattel 23's. I've been collecting Gebirgsjäger militaria for almost 30 years and have only found one in good condition for sale. I got this one off of ebay:

Image

I have two other wartime packsaddles....one is the Skoda Tragsattel for the Gebirgskanone 15 purchased from another collector:

Image

And an Italian packsaddle, also from ebay:

For reenacting purposes, I use a post-war Austrian packsaddle that I found at an army surplus store:

Perhaps you can find a surplus German Bundeswehr packsaddle...they are the same as the wartime packsaddle:

Post-war Swiss surplus one. Might be worth taking a look:

We have an opportunity to buy some muli packsaddle stuff but im not sure about its geniuinity and price. So Id like to ask :)
First goes main packsaddle. Ive searchead some time and find out its swedish one:

...next goes some "add-ons" for it. Seller describes it as for MG ammo case and 2xspare barrel case:

...unknown:

...M34 81mm mortar base plate:

...M34 81mmm mortar barrel:

...MG heavy lafette:

Any thought of origin of rest of addons? Swiss ones seems to be most obviouse. Is there any resemblance of them to German WW2 ones? Maybe anyone knew how much are the worth?

Many thanks for any help

Servus Mulischoffeur Yuri,

The packsaddle that you posted is Swiss not Swedish.

Are there any markings on other items?? Hard to say if they are wartime or post-war since several European Armies still use packsaddles on mules and Haflinger horses. But exciting stuff either way...some of the equipment holders mount onto the hooks on the side of the packsaddle which would fit a variety of packsaddles. Two of the equipment holders...the unknown one and the MG Heavy Lafette one...mount on the top center portion of the packsaddle. These will not mount on the Swiss packsaddle, but would mount on a WWII or post-war German/Austrian packsaddle. If you look at my first photo above of my Tragsattel 23 you'll see two MG ammo cans which are mounted on special equipment holder. I'll do some searching and see if I can find some more info and pictures of the equipment holders for you.

Griast i Max, wislt du Zuendeln  ......

I don`t need to explain this, but I do it :D . The hair in the neck looks longer than it is. If you look at the picure can you see that I have my head back. (sorry, my english is not so good.)To days before this photoshooting I was at the hairdresser, no joke :!: :!: :!: I have shown the hairdresser these photos som follow here and som shows Wehrmachts cuts. The hair cutter was very surprised and asked me why I want this :o .

I answered that I was German and this is family tradition, and my granddad also have had this uniform and haircut.
If I will go to this haircutter again, I will say to her, that a young german boy has complained to the haircut. And he means that the haircutter shall to the Standgericht of the German Wehrmacht, is it that du mean, Max, isn`t it? 8)
